Why We Set Aside 21 Days

Every January and August, Purpose City Church sets aside 21 days to intentionally seek God through prayer and fasting. This is not about religious performance or earning something from God. It is about making room for Him, quieting distractions, strengthening our dependence on Him, and becoming more attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Whether this is your first time praying and fasting or this is already a familiar spiritual rhythm, you are invited to participate. We believe God meets us when we draw near to Him and that these days can establish habits of prayer, surrender, and obedience that continue long after the 21 days are over.

Your Guide for the Journey

The 21 Days of Prayer + Fasting Participant Guide will help you follow each day’s Scripture and prayer focus. Each day includes a brief reflection, guided prayer prompts, an action step, and space to record what God is showing you.

Use it during your personal prayer time and bring it with you to our in-person gatherings.

What Is Fasting?

Fasting is the voluntary surrender of food or another legitimate comfort for a set period so we can give greater attention to God. It does not manipulate God, purchase an answer, or make us more deserving of His love. Fasting helps expose what controls us, trains our appetites, and reminds us that we depend on God more than we depend on what we consume.

Food-based fasting is the clearest biblical pattern and, when medically wise, can be a meaningful way to humble ourselves before God. Reducing social media, entertainment, or other distractions can also support your fast by protecting time and attention for prayer.

FAST WITH WISDOM

Children, pregnant or nursing women, people taking medication, those with medical conditions, and anyone with a history of disordered eating should choose a safe approach and consult a qualified medical professional when appropriate. Do not stop or change prescribed medication without medical guidance.
